Anthem & Sentara Health: What It Means for Jefferson OBGYN Patients

You may have heard about changes between Anthem and Sentara Health. We want to reassure you: your care with Jefferson OBGYN is not affected. Here’s what you need to know:
Jefferson OBGYN is an independent practice. We are not part of Sentara Health; we have our own contract with Anthem.
While there are changes taking place with Sentara Health and Anthem, Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital, where we deliver, remains in-network for Anthem employer plans (HMO and PPO) and Marketplace plans through December 31, 2027.
There is no need to transfer your care. You can keep seeing your Jefferson OBGYN provider and plan to deliver with us at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital next year.
We will continue to monitor the negotiations between Sentara Health and Anthem and update this page if anything changes.

Medicaid
Currently, Jefferson OB/Gyn is unable to bill Medicaid for patients initiating care with any form of Medicaid.
Medicare Updates
If you switch to a Medicare replacement plan, please make sure we are in network prior to your visit. We participate in regular Medicare, but are NOT in network for many of the replacement plans.
Medicare and all major insurance companies have approved Ob Gyn doctors to bill for a new code. This code, 99459, is added to a visit when a pelvic exam is performed. This is a new change and can surprise patients, as it sometimes goes toward the deductible. Billing for this code is part of how we are paid for our services. It may start to show up on your statements. Please let us know if you have any questions.
