Insurance and Paperwork
STAY INFORMED
It is your responsibility EARLY in pregnancy to check with your insurance company to determine benefits and requirements. You need to know the facts concerning medical payments, filing requirements, etc.
RECOVERY PERIOD/LEAVE PAPERWORK
We recommend a postpartum recovery period of 6 weeks for a vaginal delivery and 8 weeks for a cesarean delivery. The recommended recovery period is extended only in the event of postpartum complications. If paperwork, such as FMLA, needs to be completed for your employer, please submit such paperwork and allow 1-2 weeks for completion.
CIRCUMSICION
If you deliver a male baby and opt for circumcision, the circumcision must be filed to the applicable insurance company under the baby's name, date of birth and identification number. It is your responsibility to contact the billing office at Jefferson Ob/Gyn with the required insurance information and the name/date of birth of your newborn so that this may be filed correctly. If this information is not received in a timely manner, your insurance company may reject your claim, and you will be responsible for payment in full.
NEWBORN INSURANCE
Most insurance companies allow up to 30 days from the date of birth to add the newborn to an insurance plan. If this is not done within the required time period, the insurance company may require you to wait until open enrollment, which could be up to a year.
MEDICAID
Currently, Jefferson OB/Gyn is unable to bill Medicaid for patients initiating care with any form of Medicaid.
