Fifty years ago, in 1976, Jefferson OB/GYN opened its doors with a simple but powerful belief: women deserve informed, individualized, patient-centered care at every stage of life. Half a century later, that founding belief is still at the heart of everything we do.

This year, we celebrated a milestone that few practices ever reach: 50 years of caring for the women of our community. And we couldn’t let it pass without pausing to reflect on the journey, the people, and the patients who made it possible.

Where It All Began

Our story starts with our founder, Dr. Hirsch, whose vision and dedication built the foundation this practice still stands on today. At our 50th anniversary celebration, Dr. Arnold took a moment to honor the man behind it all, sharing our founder's history and the family who helped shape this practice into what it is today. Looking at old photographs and hearing those stories, it was impossible not to feel the love, dedication, and purpose woven into Jefferson OB/GYN from day one.

Caring for Generations of Charlottesville Women

If you live in Charlottesville, chances are you or someone in your family has walked through our doors. For 50 years, Jefferson OB/GYN has had the privilege of caring for the women of this community, from first well-woman visits and prenatal appointments, through pregnancy and childbirth, to menopause and beyond.

That’s not just five decades of appointments. That’s generations of mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends who have trusted us with some of the most important moments of their lives. We don’t take that trust lightly.

Empowering Women

Since our founding, Jefferson OB/GYN has emphasized empowering women to make informed decisions about their own health. We believe deeply in individualized, patient-centered care, and we’re proud to offer comprehensive obstetric and gynecological services, with a particular focus on low-intervention birth for the women who choose that path for their families.

While we proudly deliver at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital, working alongside their wonderful staff, we are not part of the hospital itself. Jefferson OB/GYN is an independent practice, with offices located less than half a mile from SMJH, giving our patients the best of both worlds: a dedicated, personal practice paired with hospital-level delivery care.
