Looking back: Our top blog posts of 2023!
Each month, our blog focuses on the most common OB-GYN questions and concerns, offering advice for women in all stages of life. Some of the topics we discussed are those related to family planning and contraception, sexually transmitted diseases and prevention, fertility and preconception health, pregnancy, mental health, perimenopause, and menopause. For National C-Section Awareness Month, we reached back out to one of our local #Herstory moms, Michelle Little, who is also a physical therapist, to highlight how physical therapy can play an important role in post-c-section recovery. Michelle, who is the founder of Women in Motion Physical Therapy and Wellness, is also a Board-certified orthopedic clinical specialist with post-doctorate specialties in obstetrics and pelvic health. #3. 21 Reasons to See a Gynecologist BEFORE You Turn 21
Our physicians provide comprehensive gynecological care for women from adolescence through adulthood. Regular gynecological care throughout a woman’s life is important for her overall health and well-being. Although most teens don’t need to have a Pap test until they are 21 years old, there are at least 21 reasons to see a gynecologist before then (courtesy of ACOG).
#4. National Infertility Awareness with Virginia Fertility & IVF
For National Infertility Awareness Week, we reached out to local fertility center Virginia Fertility & IVF. We spoke with Laura Smith, MD, about how she became involved with VA Fertility, some of the fears and misconceptions around fertility treatment, and general advice for those who are considering fertility treatment. Virginia Fertility & IVF offers all levels of female and male infertility evaluation and treatment and reproductive health services. They are the only comprehensive fertility center with their own on-site IVF laboratory, and the practice is open 7 days a week to optimize care.

Menopause happens when the ovaries stop making estrogen, and without the hormone that helps control your menstrual cycle, your period naturally ends. While menopause marks the end of the reproductive years, women experience a range of symptoms leading up to this point. The average age that women go through menopause is 51 years, however, perimenopause can start as early as your 30s!
