Flying increases the risk for venous thromboembolism; pregnant women should wear support hose and/or move frequently if traveling a long distance. Caffeine crosses the placenta easily and is metabolized more slowly by the fetus than the mother. Studies show it’s safe to have one caffeinated drink per day. Environmental exposures: It is safe to use common cleaning products in a well ventilated space. Hair treatments: A small amount of chemical is absorbed into your scalp, but experts consider it safe to dye hair in a well ventilated space. Hot tubs and saunas: We recommend against hot tubs or sauna use during pregnancy. Warm baths and showers are fine. Medication use: Speak to your doctor about medications to discuss risks and benefits during pregnancy. The Cleveland Clinic also has a comprehensive list of over-the-counter medications that are considered safe during your pregnancy. Three-point seatbelts are recommended. The lap belt should be placed across the hips and below the uterus. The shoulder belt should be placed between the breasts and lateral to the uterus. Sexual intercourse during pregnancy is not associated with adverse outcomes.
